Iyseden Christie has been released by Torquay United. The striker joined The Gulls for the remaining part of the season and helped to steer them in to a Conference Play off Place and eventually their place back in the Football League.

Coventry born Christie had been on loan to them initially from Stevenage whom he joined after a highly successful spell at Kidderminster Harriers.

Lee Fowler has joined Kettering Town. Fowler came through City Academy ranks and made 14 appearances for the Sky Blues before a court case saw his career take a nosedive. He had played for Huddersfield Town and last season was at Forest Green Rovers.

Fowler has joined The Poppies on a two year deal and told The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph: "I like getting on the ball and setting things up by making tackles and playing from deep. "Then I can join in further forward.

"Everyone here has to look to improve themselves. After finishing eighth, we should be going for the play-offs."

Former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan has applied to be the next manager of Aberdeen.

Whelan has played for Aberdeen in a host of clubs and now wants to try his hand at managing.

"I've completed my UEFA B licence and I am sitting my UEFA A qualification," said Whelan to Sky Sports. "I may not have managerial experience, but I believe I can provide Aberdeen with fresh ideas.

"I have got a team together willing to come with me if I got the job. "One is a former team-mate of mine and Ron Atkinson is a former Premier League manager with one of the best clubs in the division with a wealth of experience."
