"I think there has been progress," said Coleman who has been in charge for 52 matches with City winning 17 and drawing the same amount to the CT.
"I was looking at the figures last week and I think 17 players have gone out since I arrived and eight players have come in. We have not increased the budget.
"In fact, we have tried to keep just under the budget we had and the players we have bought are worth a lot more now because they have done well compared to what we paid for them. So the value of the squad is more and that is without increasing our budget.
"We have invested well, the Chairman, myself and Andy Thorn - the Chief Scout and have studied the players quite hard. You don't get every signing right but we have been quite methodical in the homework we have done on players we have brought in.
"It wasn't a case of us coming in and signing eight players on top of the 35 we had. Anyone can do that. It was a case of we got to get people out but it wasn't three out and three in, it was more like four out and one in because the squad was too big.
"It was too big and it was not good enough, so we wanted a smaller squad with more quality and that's what we tried to do.
"We are not there yet, by any stretch of the imagination but we have improved and the target has always been a finish in the top half this season. We are on course for that.
"I would like to be a bit higher and I'd like to be in the top ten if I am perfectly honest but we are on course and again, we have got to do it all again in the summer."
