CET AGAINST THE BADGE

The Coventry Evening Telegraph have joined the outrage against the new badge.

An article on their ICCoventy website reads: "Get rid of this crest now! Jan 12 2005. "Even by Coventry City's standards, the attempt to change the club's badge is a massive own goal. You can sack a perfectly competent manager, languish in the lower reaches of the Coca-Cola Championship, and then allow another manager to quit on the job and the fans, though unhappy, will still support the club.

But try to change their badge - the very symbol of their club and the focus of their allegiance - and they're in revolt. And quite rightly, too.

Today the Evening Telegraph is launching a campaign to save the Sky Blues badge. Send us your views and we'll make sure Mike McGinnity receives a copy of every one of them.

We want him to realise what a huge mistake he's made and put it right by scrapping the new badge. It's time for Mr McGinnity and his board of directors to take account of the feelings of Coventry City supporters - the very people who will be expected to buy the shirts and other merchandise which will carry this hideous monstrosity.

The Sky Blues have one of the proudest, most distinctive, club crests in England. It not only represents the club, it is an emblem of our city and its long history. It doesn't need to be replaced - new era or not.

To change it to save the club a few quid is crassness of the highest order and the actions of a board increasingly displaying how out of touch it is with Coventry City supporters.

Do yourself a favour Mr McGinnity. Get rid of that awful new badge - now!
