The League One season got underway tonight with Sheffield United taking on Notts County.

In Lee Carsley who joined United as a coach and assistant to David Weir's first league game following his move from Coventry City, the Blades took the lead on the half hour through Kevin McDonald who had be the victim of a foul which saw Gary Liddle sent off in the 15th minute.

The Magpies, who left David Bell out of their squad, levelled in the 59th minute when Enoch Showunmi scored with a right footed shot from outside the area.

However, seven minutes later, Harry McGuire was allowed to score with a header which proved enough for The Blades who replaced former Sky Blue Michael Doyle in the 78th minute, to take the win.
