Carl Baker Match Day Guest For City V Colchester

Last updated : 25 March 2016 By CCFPA

The Coventry City Former Players Association are delighted to announce that popular former Sky Blues captain Carl Baker is returning to the Ricoh as the Association’s ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues’ next home game against bottom of the table Colchester United.

‘Bakes’ will be at the Arena next Tuesday night, 29th March 2016 and will be hoping former colleagues will be able to complete the double over the ‘Us’ and maintain a push for the League One play off stakes (assuming all has gone well at CCFC’s Good Friday game at Peterborough today). Fans will remember that former CCFC captain Carl, who came to the Ricoh from Stockport County in January 2010, delivered 28 Sky Blue goals in his 182 first team appearances. Bakes moved to Championship club MK Dons in September 2014 and has also become a firm fans favourite at the Northants outfit. The Dons are not playing next Tuesday so Carl is free to return to the Ricoh as our guest (as he still holds CCFC’s club and fans in considerable affection and only recently issued a rallying call to both for the closing part of our season). He is sure to receive a warm welcome from all at the stadium since he was not only a hard working and skilful player at the Club but could always be relied upon to support community and charity initiatives in Coventry (where he still lives).

He will, no doubt, look forward to meeting as many former colleagues in the Sky Blue squad and management including fellow CCFPA member Steve Ogrizovic on the night as well as renewing his bond with many members of the Sky Blue Army. He is also certain to defend his trophy from last year’s CCFPA Golf Day by entering at least one team in this year’s Golf Day 2016 at Stoneleigh Deer Park GC on Thursday June 9th.

If you are planning to go to the game look out for Carl around the lounges at the Ricoh before the game and if you aren’t able to get to the Arena why not listen to him for he should be part of the BBC C&W Radio match commentary team during the game. After the game we also hope to get him down to the G-Casino where Sky Blue fans can see him ‘lightly grilled’ in a Q&A conducted by CCFPA Vice Chairman Billy Bell on the stage of Lady G’s. All are welcome!

QuestionWatch out soon for an announcement soon on who will be our first time ever ‘special guest’ for our next Saturday home game at the Ricoh against Millwall on April 16th. He is in a sense a double Sky Blue (though only at Highfield Road the once!). We expect to sign him up as a CCFPA member live on the stage of Lady G’s after the game is over!  By then it should be much clearer whether the Sky Blues of Coventry City are likely to be serious play off contenders for season 2015-16.
