Former Coventry City youngster Paul Bastock is to retire from playing football after a thirty year career.

The keeper was part of City's team which won the FA Youth Cup in 1987 and went on to play for the likes of Cambridge United, Rushden & Diamonds, St Albans and Boston United before playing for Wisbech Town this season and helping them to promotion.

Bastock beat Peter Shilton's record for competitive matches of 1,249 back in November and was invited to the PFA Player of the Year awards and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

He went onto play in 1,277 competitive matches and said: “My body is fine, probably better than it has been. But I just felt that, after the year I’ve had, I could end with a promotion,”
