Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan has not only committed his future to the club, he has said he fully expects the Sky Blues to exceed all expectations this season.
Clingan has repeatedly been linked with a move from the cash strapped club, with Leeds said to be interested in the Northern Ireland international midfielder.
The City boss Andy Thorn made Clingan club captain during the summer and sees his as a vital part of his team and the club chairman Ken Dulieu refuted any chance of Clingan being sold.
Clingan is now eager for the Championship season to get underway and is relishing the challenge heavily tipped to struggle this year, especially after losing three of the more senior players at the club after they all rejected the deals the club offered them.
Clingan said, “We have lost three very good players but we will all stick together and once we have our strongest 11 on the pitch I think we can compete with anyone.”
“I’m an ambitious person and I don’t want to be sitting down at the bottom end looking over my shoulder. I want to win things and I definitely think that can happen here. There was a bit of speculation about Leeds but to be honest I’m very happy here. The fans have made me feel really welcome since day one, I’ve settled in and I want to do well for the club."
