Southend United Phil Brown was full of his praise for his goalkeeper Dan Bentley for his performance in the 2-2 draw against Coventry City last night.

Bentley, who is interesting Queens Park Rangers, pulled off a string of fine saves and saved Jim O'Brien's 53rd minute penalty and speaking about him, Phil Brown told The Echo: “Daniel Bentley is one the best goalkeepers in the division and he showed that again here.

“At the end of the game he was pointing to the number one on his shirt and the draw meant a lot to him.

“If anyone thinks he’s not playing for this football club following the uncertainty surrounding his future should just take a look at that performance.

“He was first class but we were hanging on in the second half and we shouldn’t have been.

“David Mooney and John White should have scored and we should have been 3-1 or 4-1 up at half-time.

“But in the end we were left fighting for a point.”
