Bobby Gould In Charge At Weymouth

Former Coventry City player and twice manager Bobby Gould has been appointed manager of Weymouth FC.

Gould had been in New Zealand as a coach with Hawkes Bay United his son and former Sky Blue keeper Jonathan Gould is the manager, but has returned to Britain to take over the troubled Conference side.

Gould, a former Caludon Castle pupil, made his City debut at Shrewsbury in 1963 but only played twenty nine times over the next three seasons. His best season was the promotion season of 1966-67 which saw him score 24 goals in 39 matches as City were promoted to the top flight for the first time.

Gould scored eight goals in fifteen matches against the best in the country and was sold to Arsenal in 1969. He then went onto Wolves, Bristol City, West Ham before ending his playing with Wolves.

He moved into managment and got the job as Bristol Rovers manager before being appointed as the new City boss to replace Dave Sexton in May 1983. He rebuilt the side after a mass exodus signing the likes of Steve Ogrizovic and Cyrille Regis before he was sacked in December 1984.

He returned to Bristol Rovers and then went to Wimbledon where he took the team to the 1988 FA Cup Final.

A spell at West Brom saw him back at Highfield Road in 1992 with players like Terry Gibson signed before he quit in December 1993.

He became the Welsh national manager from 1995-1999 and then had a spell at Cardiff City, before he took over at Cheltenham in 2003. He was not a popular man at Whaddon Road and protests led to his resignation.

He did some coaching at Peterborough United before moving to New Zealand in Spetember 2006.

Gould replaces former VS Rugby manager Alan Lewer.
