Coventry City will face Championship matches against Birmingham City, Blackpool and West Ham United next season.
The final day of FA Premier League matches saw a possible five clubs joining already relegated West Ham in the Championship next season.
This was a day of twists and turns even had neutrals on the edge of their seats.
It looked like Birmingham playing away to Tottenham would be down after they conceded a 49th minute Pavlyuchenko goal. However, The Blues equalised in the 78th minute through Craig Gardner. Birmingham needed to win after Wolves hit a second goal through in the 87th minute against Blackburn, managed by former Coventry City assistant Steve Keane, in a 3-2 defeat but it didn't arrive and a stunning Pavlyuchenko goal in stoppage time meant that the Carling Cup winners will be in the Championship next season.
Blackpool had the most difficult game of the day, away to Champions Manchester United but Ian Holloway's side went behind to a Park goal before Adams and Taylor-Fletcher put them ahead early in the second half. Anderson equalised for United in the 62nd minute and United went ahead through an own goal from Coventry born Ian Evatt and an 81st minute Michael Owen goal put United 4-2 up and Blackpool into the Championship next season.
Wigan who were away at Stoke City had also dropped in to the bottom three as Blackburn were 3-2 up at Wolves but Rodallega netted to give Wigan a 1-0 win and preserve their place in the top flight.
Former Coventry City youngsters Danny Sturridge was sent off whilst playing in his final loan game for Bolton's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Gary McAllister's Aston Villa beat Liverpool 1-0, Everton beat Chelsea 1-0, Fulham drew 2-2 with Arsenal, Newcastle drew 3-3 with West Brom and already relegated West Ham lost 3-0 at home to Sunderland.
