Coventry City are expecting their biggest crowd of the season so far on Saturday when they entertain Leeds United.
Leeds have sold all of their allocation of 6,200 tickets and the Ricoh ticket office has sold in excess of 18,000 to Coventry City fans which should mean the 22,000+ gate for the M69 derby against Leicester will be exceeded. The gate could come close to the 27,992 recorded at The Ricoh in 2008 when Wolverhampton Wanderers were the visitors
The news will be welcomed by the Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd as he has always insisted it is his aim to fill The Ricoh Arena for every home game.
"I've had big crowds before and so have the players and that's what you want," said Boothroyd. We don't want to be playing in a half empty stadium and we certainly don't want to be out-sung by a load of Leeds fans."
"We want people to come along and shout and support us and we've got to give them something that will make them want to come back. Then, hopefully, games like this will be a regular occurrence."
Last week Coventry City took about 1700 fans to Bramall Lane and Boothroyd was impressed with the amount of noise the relatively few fans , he said "If we can create that noise from 20,000 people then it is going to be a great club to manage, great a club to support and a great club to be part of, but we only do that by making sure that we feed the crowd and get them excited, and then the crowd feeds us."
"They need to understand that we are playing football to win, we are trying to entertain and whatever happens on that pitch those players are giving absolutely everything, physically and mentally because they want to be successful and not hanging around mid table anymore."
"They want a challenge and be the best they can be, and the best thing we can do is try to shut Leeds up, simple as that and we will only do that by playing well and focusing on getting a positive result."
