Best Slams Booers

Coventry City striker Leon Best has hit back at some of the City support who booed him during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Preston North End.

Best was one of four strikers fielded by Chris Coleman and has admitted that whilst he was not at his best, he felt that the boos directed towards him were unjustified.

"I thought the team played very well and the fans should be delighted with the point against a side who haven't lost a game yet," said last season's Young Player Of The Year to the CT.

"I think we created loads of chances and looked comfortable, and on another day we could have won three or four nil. "It was my first game back and I am disappointed with my performance but I need to play a lot of games to get my match fitness back up.

"I was disappointed with a few things I heard out there but I have got the manager behind me and the players behind me, and if we keep playing like that then I am sure we will win a few games.

"I thought the fans were a bit harsh on me and the team because you can't be booing after a performance like that. Preston are a team that create a lot of chances and batter sides and they didn't come here and do that.

"The fans are the family of this club and when my family come and watch me, even if I play badly they don't boo me. Obviously they are hard core fans and they are frustrated but you don't boo your team.

"You have to be there when times are hard because anyone can cheer when we are winning, that's the easy bit, but we need them when we are not winning, and they are the real fans.

"Even when I am in the stands I can hear fans booing and it's not nice. People aren't out there trying not to play well.

"So it has disappointed me to see that the fans can switch on me just like that. When I am out there scoring goals they will be cheering me again but I don't want them cheering me if they switch on me like that. I would rather they just be one way all the time.

"I have seen it done to other players and I have always thought if it ever happens to me then that's when my respect for those doing it will go out of the window.

"I am happy to stand outside the ground signing autographs for half an hour or 45 minutes after a game. All I am saying is that we need them to support the players because it was a good enough performance."

If Best was booed, then those of involved with Covsupport News Service did not hear it but did hear the booing on the final whistle for the team in general who could not find the net despite fielding four strikers.
