Craig Bellamy has been arrested in connection with an alleged assult at Cardiff's Number 10 night club last month. The Blackburn Rovers striker was released on bail but will have to report back to South Wales police after they have conducted their inquiries. A 19 year old woman complained to police of suffering bruising to her arm and neck.

A South Wales police spokesman confirmed the arrest and said to BBC Wales: "We are investigating the alleged assault of a 19-year-old woman. "A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries."

Meanwhile, Noel Whelan has rejected a move to Scottish Premier League side Livingston and is training at Aberdeen.

Jimmy Calderwell manager of Aberdeen said: "I have spoken to Noel and he has decided not to accept the offer from Livingston. We've agreed he can come and train with us, but there is no contract on offer. It will be a massive lift for everyone in the dressing room because he was a big influence when he was with us last season.

"I'm looking forward to having him around - it will be nice to see his mischievous smile again. Noel's girlfriend lives up here and he's looking for training facilities, there's nothing more to it than that. I was speaking to Gordon Strachan about him on Saturday, who had him in his team at Coventry, and I think he's made a similar offer for Noel to keep fit with his squad.

"There's no doubt we have missed his bubbly character since he's been away, so from that point of view it will be good for us to have him with us
."

Whelan admitted that he would play for free if it meant getting a game. "I would definitely play for Aberdeen for free," the former City striker said. "If they wanted me I would bite their hands off to play for them again. "I let the club and the fans down when I was at Pittodrie last season, there's no doubt about that. However, I recognised that I had a problem and I did something about it."
