Barrett In Exile

Graham Barrett feels his career for both club and country is being stifled by a two-year 'exile' in midfield.

The Irishman who is in the Republic Of Ireland's squad to plya Croatia said: "I have to start playing in my proper position for my club. "I still see myself as a front man, even though I have not played there for two years, but I don't think I will make a big step until I start playing there again.

"It is something I have spoken to the manager (Peter Reid) about. I played up front a few weeks ago against QPR and I scored. "But then I was back in midfield for the next game and then I was injured in a game in which I scored again (2-2 at Burnley), with me out for three weeks prior to Saturday's 2-1 win over Plymouth in which I scored from midfield.

"At the moment he (Reid) needs me in midfield, so as much as I want to play up front again, I have to be professional, just get on with it and play wherever I am asked to play. "Personally, I would like to be starting in my normal position because two years is a long time out of it."
