Coventry City defender Elliott Ward has said that Barnsley players did their best in trying to put him off scoring the late penalty the other night.

The Barnsley players were furious when the penalty was awarded and a number including Robert Kozluk, attempted to put Ward off his kick, which eventually he thumped into the bakc of the net.

"Their players were telling me how desperate they were for me to miss and trying to put me off," said Ward to the CT.

"They are struggling and maybe they felt that could be a defining point in their season.

"All of them were running up to me and saying things, so I had to stay mentally strong. "It was obviously their desperation coming out but I blanked it out and didn't listen to them.

"The only thing I thought was that Luke Steele has been on loan here and knows how I take penalties.

"He is a good penalty stopper in training so I knew I had to mix it up, and I just smashed it."

The FA have according to the Yorkshire Post, launched an enquiry into the behaviour of the Barnsley players towards the referee Steven Cook on the final whistle. Cook and his assistants were surrounded by Barnsley players apart from Luke Steele, before being protected by City security staff.
