The ball boy, who was abused during Coventry City's 1-0 defeat at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday has been invited by the Sky Blues to be Crewe's macot when they visit the Ricoh Arena.

One person was arrested after supporters complained to police and stewards and City's Commercial Director Justin Rose told Nick Connoll: "This is not how we expect fans to behave. Perhaps it is encouraging that the complaint has been made by fellow supporters who were embarrassed and upset by the behaviour of this small number of fans.

“We have contacted Crewe and offered our apologies. Rest assured we will try to identify those fans involved and take appropriate action.

“As a gesture of goodwill we have – through Crewe – invited the ball boy and his family to attend the reverse fixture on the 23rd February and for him to be Crewe mascot for the day.”
