Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that allowing Carl Baker to leave was down to moving the club forward.

Pressley told James Rodger of the Coventry Telegraph at this morning's press conference:  "I'm a very frank manager and I approach them and explain why they've been left out. It's never personal. It's about moving the club forward.

"I look at some players who've left the club and I still have great relations with them. I conduct myself in a way which I'd respect if I was a player.

"Carl was a difficult situation. He was very settled. His family were settled. I was open with him though - and he wasn't part of the plans. We still have a good relationship. It wasn't personal, it was purely a footballing decision."

"Sometimes I'll get things wrong with regards to departures. But managers are employed to make decisions. Carl was a fan favourite."
