Artificial pitches similar to the 3G pitch which Bedworth United officially opened last week could be used in the Football League, if the clubs vote for them to be allowed to be used.

At a meeting in Walsall on Thursday, representatives from the 46 League One and Two member clubs gave 'a strong indication they would vote in favour of permitting 3G ("third generation") surfaces from next season.' with 29 voting in favour after seeing a presentation.

The pitches are common place in the League Of Wales and are already in some use by non-league sides.

The clubs will formally vote on the issue in November.
