Former Coventry City manager Ady Boothroyd and his assistant Lee Carsley, the former City midfielder, coach and caretaker manager, started with Coventry City loanee Adam Armstrong on the bench for England U19's friendly with Japan at Manchester City's Academy Stadium.

Boothroyd changed the team from the one which had drawn with Holland and saw his side go ahead in the ninth minute with Josh Onomah of Tottenham keeping his cool to score.

Patrick Roberts scored from a reverse pass after 26 minutes and Japan came back with a header from  Kazune Kubota on the half hour mark before Tammy Abraham put England 3-1 up with 32 minutes gone.

In the 64th minute, Abraham had a second goal before Adam Armstrong came on for the last twenty minutes along with Cov kid Danny Crowley.
