Notts County manager Neal Ardley has said that Michael Doyle is someone he has admired for a long time.
The Irishman, who had two spells with City, making over 350 appearances and a League Two Play-Off Final victory, was unloaded off the wage bill by Coventry City amid rumours of a training ground bust up and has joined the League Two side who are fighting for their Football League survival this season.
Ardley said about Doyle to his club's website: “It’s been a lengthy pursuit as he is someone I’ve admired for a long time.
“From day one we’ve said we wanted to introduce leadership qualities and character into the squad and Michael adds that alongside Jim O’Brien.
“He’s a player that is used to being at the top end of the league and has several promotions on his CV so I feel proud that he wants to come and play for us.
“For him to be prepared to join us and say ‘let’s do this’ says a lot about this club and hopefully he will drive us forward to achieve what we want.
“He’s very good on the ball, combative, knows where he should be on the pitch and makes play tick.
“Most of all, though, it’s like having a manager’s voice in the middle of the park.”
