Another Fine Mess City

Coventry City, have over the years lurched from one PR disaster to another, but the news that the current board have forced Joe Elliott to step aside from his role as Life President is going to take some beating.

For many people in Coventry, Joe Elliott was the public face of Coventry City. His thirst, desire and unwavering support for Coventry City FC and indeed everything Coventry is legendary and there are plenty of public figures in our city, who would be only too happy to have the support and respect that Mr Elliott has earned and now commands.

It is only to be expected that the news that the club have forced him to step aside from a role he undertook with relish. Not because he wanted it but because it was the best thing for Coventry City FC, has rightly angered many fans.

Joe has always helped as many people as he can in this city, either as a friend or through one of his charities or groups that he is involved with. It is his helping of a friend that he got involved with the Gary Hoffman consortium.

Their aim, as we understand, it is to safeguard the future of the club, something which supporters don't see the current board doing at this moment in time. That is not wrong or trouble making, it is merely trying to ensure that there are future generations of City supporters who can share in the joy and misery that following the Sky Blues brings.

Whilst we understand the business practice of asking that someone supporting a bid against the current board steps down, we  totally agree and support ACL CEO's Daniel Gidney's comments that there are no clear benefits to the club of asking him to step aside and feel that unfortunately, this is another PR disaster for the club.
