Coventry City are set to make another signing sometime this coming week.

Richard Keogh, a right back who is out of contract at Carlisle, will join the Sky Blues as soon as a compensation package  between the clubs has been agreed.

Keogh is a 23 year old attacking right back and though his contract has expired with Carlisle, the Brunton Park club are entitled to compensation, because he is under 24 years of age.

Keogh was Carlisle's players player of the season last year and was a fans favourite, but he rejected a new contract and expressed his desire to move on.

Keogh is described as an attacking right back who can tackle well and get into attacking forward positions, and giving wingers and wide players the extra player on the overlap.

City boss Aidy Boothroyd knows a little about the player as his assistant at Colchester John Ward signed him when he was at Carlisle.

Keogh is 6' tall and would be an intimidating presence in defence and would give the Sky Blues what Boothroyd has insisted he wants from his players, namely to attack from the back along the flanks.

Although Keogh was born in Essex, he is another Irish under 21 international player, having played for the Republic of Ireland under 21's on eight occasions. His footballing education started at Ipswich's academy, but he soon moved to Stoke youth team.

He rejected a move to Burnely, but did move to Bristol City in 2005 where he played 40 times and managed to grab three goals. He spent much of his time on loan while under contract at Bristol, eventually on loan at Carlisle, for whom he signed permanently in 2008.

Keogh made 73 appearances for Carlisle, scoring 4 goals and became a cult hero among the Cumbrian fans, with one group of travelling supporters carrying a giant 'In Keogh We Trust' banner across the country.

It was widely thought that Keogh would move to Scottish club Hibernian at the conclusion of last season, but the deal fell through.

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott said of Keogh's desire to leave Brunton Park, "We spent a lot of time with Richard in an attempt to keep him but we've had to reluctantly say goodbye. "

"It's been the toughest decision he's ever made but he wants to try his luck with another club.Sometimes you have to accept defeat and we wish him luck."
