Coventry City Former Players Association is pleased to announce that former Sky Blue defender Andrew Whing will be our ‘special guest’ on Friday 23rd November 2018 for CCFC’s upcoming match under floodlights at the Ricoh against League One top six side Peterborough United.  The Posh usually give the Sky Blues a good game and the home team will need to get back into their winning groove after two cup and one league defeat in their last three games within seven days. Though currently fourth the Posh are only six points above City in 9th spot so three home points are vital to continue the Sky Blues’ challnge for a play-off spot.

Andy then & Andy Now

A Brummy, but at CCFC for a decade from a schoolboy in 1997, Andy made his debut at right back in 2003 making 119 first team appearances (two goals) before being released in May 2007. He achieved an important place in the club history books by scoring the Sky Blues’ last ever league goal at their old Highfield Road ground in a 6-2 victory over local rivals Derby County in 2005 (below).

Subsequently Andy played for Brighton and Hove Albion, Chesterfield (on loan), Leyton Orient (after a loan spell) and his last (and current) club Oxford United where he won ‘player of the year’ in 2010.

Andy WhingAt the Kassem Stadium, Andy made over 100 appearances for the United between 2010-15 when injury forced his retirement and he moved into youth team coaching with them.

Most recently, Andy has been back at the club where he started out taking up the role of Assistant PDP Coach at the Sky Blues Academy where he is contributing to their excellent reputation for finding and polishing future footballing talent!

Look out for Andy in the various supporters’ lounges prior to the game and on the stage of Lady Gs in the G-Casino for a Q&A with CCFPA’s Billy Bell after the game is over. Andy will also be assisting the BBC CWR live matchday commentary team during the game as it unfolds to those supporters who cannot make it to the Ricoh on Saturday.  Why not join ‘Whingy’ to cheer the Sky Blues to victory on Friday night?
