Andy Morrell - The Match Day Guest, Harrington The Ref

Last updated : 18 December 2017 By CNS Sport

The Coventry City Former Players Association welcomes former Sky Blue forward Andy Morrell back to the Ricoh as our ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues Division Two game at the Ricoh on Friday night (22nd December 2017) against Wycombe Wanderers.

Sky Blue fans will remember Andy as a hard-working wing forward who was signed by Gary McAllister to the Sky Blues in May 2003 from Wrexham where he had been a goal poaching ace over five seasons (43 goals in 120 appearances).

Andy assisted us during a tricky time in the Championship and in 108 first team appearances (often from the bench)  netted a creditable 24 times in his three seasons with us. In August 2006 he moved to Blackpool where he made a great early contribution to their push towards their eventual Premiership status.  Andy then moved to Bury in 2008 for a couple of seasons and from August 2010 to February 2014 he assisted Wrexham (from 2011 as player-manager). He took the Dragons to Wembley twice in 2013, winning the F.A.Trophy on the first visit.

Andy & Claus in Legends XI Sky Blue

After a brief spell as Assistant Manager at Shrewsbury Town, Andy was announced as the new gaffer of Tamworth in early 2014 and has taken the Conference North side to the playoffs since. Popular fellow CCFPA member Claus Bech Jorgensen has also joined him at the Lambs in a coaching capacity.

Andy joined CCFPA in early 2011 and became the Association’s 180th Full member and turns out from time to time with our Legends XI in Charity games.

Look out for Andy ‘around the lounges’ where he will be accompanied by club host and fellow CCFPA member Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts to meet the fans. Andy is also bound to have much of interest to say about his time with the Sky Blues and the proceedings of the game which the Sky Blues need to win to end 2017 at the Ricoh on a high, ready to push on to promotion in the second half of the season.

If you can’t make the game Andy, as with all our ‘specials’, will be providing the benefit of his playing and management experience to analysing the game as it unfolds for BBC CWR’s live matchday commentary team.
