Andy Marshall The Match Day Guest

Last updated : 03 August 2015 By CCFPA

The Coventry City Former Players Associaion are delighted to announce that our ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues first home game of the 2015-16 season will be the Club’s former shot stopper Andy Marshall.

Andy will see the Sky Blues face newly relegated Wigan Athletic at the Ricoh on Saturday 08th August 2015. Andy will be the first of what we hope will be a galaxy of former Sky Blue stars, both frequent visitors and first timers returning to the Ricoh for the Club’s home games as our guests.

Andy, who became an Association member in December 2010, started out professionally with Norwich City and built his professional career with the likes of Bournemouth, Ipswich, Gillingham and Wolves before impressing with Millwall sufficiently to attract the attentions of Coventry City FC. An England U18 and U21 International, Andy was a popular member of the Sky Blues teams between 2006-09 and made 62 first team appearances between the sticks for CCFC before moving to the Villa in August 2009 (via a trial with QPR).

In 2013-14 he returned to Millwall to provide goalkeeping cover but hung up his boots in January 2014 to concentrate on his role as Footballing Director of the SGA (Sells Goalkeeping Academy). In February 2014, as Aston Villa’s goalkeeping coach, he also found himself in joint temporary charge for four days at Villa Park (as part of a duo with first-team coach Scott Marshall) following Paul Lambert’s departure. His record?  The duo won their sole match in charge!

Welcome Andy – we hope you see the Sky Blues significantly improve on their somewhat poor pre-season performances against lower league opposition and ignite to show the Championship side of last year that League One is a tough division in which to excel!  Look out for Andy ‘around the lounges’ at the Ricoh before the game, in the press box with the BBC CWR matchday commentary team during the game and on the stage of the G-Casino’s Lady G’s Show Bar after the final whistle.
