Anderson: We Are In A Better Place Than Twelve Months Ago

Coventry City MD Chris Anderson has said that the club are in a better place than they were a year ago when it comes to recruiting players.

Anderson told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: "I believe we’re in a better place now than we were 12 months ago because we have more of a system and the personnel in place to make recruitment really effective this summer,” he said.

“Mark Venus was just getting on board and the scouting department was pretty much bare boned, and that’s putting it nicely, but over the course of the year we have been able to put together a scouting department and a process of evaluating players that will help this summer.

“And that will hopefully hold the club in good stead so that we are better equipped to make the choices and put names in front of Tony Mowbray that make sense.

“I think Tony and the recruiting department have learned an important lesson from last season about the types of players that can help sustain a campaign so between the learnings that have taken place in the football department and a better system in place to make recruitment more effective, I think we’re in a better place 12 months on.

"And that makes me very optimistic.

“I think we have become a more attractive club for players to come to because of the kind of football Tony plays, how well the club did at times and the kind of support the club enjoys.

“I am really excited by the calibre of players we’re talking to. What we’re trying to do is elevate the overall quality of the team by looking to invest in some of the key positions that were weaknesses last year and look to make really good use of the loan market by bringing some top, top talent to the club.

“The Premier League clubs have clearly sat up and taken notice and feel that Coventry is a place they can send their most promising young players, knowing they will be taken care of both behind the scenes and in terms of the training we do with the work Jamie Clapham does alongside Tony on the grass.

“Also in terms of playing the right style of football, particularly for their technical players. And all that combined, clubs are looking at Coventry really seriously and the club is becoming a premier destination in League One.”
