Aloisi Scores In Aussie Win

Former Coventry City striker John Aloisi scored for Australia in their 3-1 World Cup win over Japan this afternoon.

The Aussies trailed to a 26th minute Nakamura goal but threw on John Aloisi and Everton's Tim Cahill. The former Millwall star banged in two goals in the 83rd (Australia's first ever goal in a World Cup Finals) and added a second five minutes later.

John Aloisi was brought on in the 75th minute, he was cautioned but in the 92nd minute,rifled home to give Australia a 3-1 victory.

Speaking after the game, Aloisi said: "The boys were great. We're over the moon that we won, because we were behind for a long time and couldn't find a way to get back into it. "That was probably the most exciting match that Australia has ever had, even better than last November against Uruguay. It was just great, it was Australia's first ever win at a World Cup and I was part of it."

The Czech Republic comfortably saw off the USA with a 3-0 victory. They lost Jan Koller to injury after he had given the Czech Republic a fifth minute lead. Arsenal's new boy Thomas Rosicky hit two cracking goals in the 35th and 76th minute to wrap up a very convincing win.

The final game of the day saw Italy beat Ghana 2-0. Andrea Pirlo scored in the 40th minute with Iaquinta adding a second in the 83rd minute.
