Micky Adams has left Colchester United with immediate effect. The former City player and manager had been assistant manager at the U's after being appointed in July, replacing another former Sky Blue Mick Harford.

The Essex side have slumped to the bottom of the Championship and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Peterborough United on Saturday.

Colchester are to publish a statement in due course but sources in Colchester have said that the 46 year old's style of man management which helped get him the sack from the Sky Blues a year ago had not helped matters.

Adams has applied for a number of jobs with the vacancy at Brentford the latest he was linked with.
