Micky Adams told the club website after City's 2-0 win at Notts County: "It was another good workout, I thought we looked a little bit more like it and a lot sharper, but as I said before the type of training we are doing of late would make them feel a little bit tired. But we will bring the length of the sessions in now and we'll sharpen them up and we are about at the stage where I wanted us to be.

"I thought the back-four today was more like the way I want things done. We've still got work to do because nobody is perfect at this stage of pre-season, but I thought it was a better performance."

"All we've ever wanted is a strong squad and competition for places. I think supporters get frustrated pre-season because they think that's the team that will start and that they should do better, but I have got an idea of the team in my mind and I haven't picked it yet so they will have to wait like the players will. It's a case of giving people opportunities and seeing what they can do, playing a few trialists as we have done over pre-season and we will continue to do."
