Speaking about Andy Marshall, Elliott Ward,David McNamee and Chris Birchall who all made their debuts, Micky Adams told the club website: "I thought they all played their part.

"It takes time to settle into a stadium. They've settled in great as a bunch but you never know until they are playing in front of 22,000 people how they are going to react and whether they can deal with it. "A lot of them have come from smaller clubs but I thought they were terrific as were all our players.
"What I saw after conceding a goal really pleased me. I saw people upping the tempo of their game, crashing through tackles. I thought our fitness levels towards the end were fantastic and we scored a couple of good goals as well.

"We expected a very difficult game and we showed great resilience to grind out a win.

"I think the turning point was probably when Don Hutchison came on to the pitch and got hold of the ball for us. He brought other players into the game and did brilliantly."

Stern John said afterwards that he would cherish the goal he scored, whilst the other goal scorer Gary McSheffrey said he would enjoy the win and look forward to the game at Southampton on Wednesday.
