Micky Adams was pleased with the victory over the side he supporters. Said the City boss to the after game press conference: "I'm delighted. "It was a mammoth effort against a good side. It was a fantastic team display.

"Our first goal came about in one of United's transitions, Geary and Jagielka were swapping positions and McSheffrey found himself in a position where I didn't want him to be but he read Morgan and finished well.

"We knew United would up the tempo in the second half and we defended well as a unit. Whilst we were under pressure I can't remember Marton Fulop making too many saves."
