Accusations Made Against City Supporter Because He Fitted The Profile

CNS Sport are concerned to hear of a Coventry City supporter at Morecambe on Saturday being wrongly accused of involvement in a betting scam by employees of the Comsec International, who work with FootballDataco on behalf of the operational unit of English Football League.

The supporter was accused by EFL officials of fitting the profile of an illegal betting scammer which allegedly entails: "being Asian, wearing jeans and a hooded winter Nike branded coat and being seen consistently using a mobile phone."

Whilst, we are fully aware of problems with Chinese run betting syndicates such as Running Ball which have been a problem at Football League and U23 matches and the efforts made by Coventry City amongst others to stamp out such problems and the strides being made by the football authorities to prevent match fixing etc, we hope that the actions being taken by Kick It Out and the Football Supporters Federation will prevent other Coventry City supporters of Asian origin or Coventry City supporters in general, from being singled out for accusations purely because they "fit the profile".
