According To Hull

Ahead of City's trip to the KC Stadium in Hull on Saturday, Footy Mad caught up with Andy from Hull City On Line.

How did you fare last season?
A success, or a failure and why? We did well, despite an incredible number of major injuries, and never looked in real danger of relegation. We found that we had little to fear in our first year back in this division.

How do you expect you'll do this season?

We're looking to build on our finish of 18th last season and keep in sight of the top half of the table. That seems a realistic aim, but as long as we make some progress on last season then that's enough for us at the moment.

What have you done on the transfer market this summer?

We've bought in areas where we've needed players (most notably Spurs midfielder Dean Marney), and sold a couple of fringe players. We also made a good profit on Leon Cort, selling him to Crystal Palace for £1.25m after signing him on a free two years ago, and have signed a replacement in Michael Turner.

Which of your new signings are you expecting most from?

Dean Marney is a very exciting prospect, and we've paid a club record fee for him so we're expecting big things.

Where do you think you'll need to strengthen in the January transfer window? If we don't do it sooner, we probably need to bring in another striker, having sold Billy Paynter to Southend. Most of our other strikers are struggling with fitness as well, so someone needs to come in to score goals. We'll have the money to strengthen.

Have you any promising youngsters breaking into the team?

We've signed up a few first year pro's, but it'll be another year or two before they'll make a mark on the first team.

Have you got the right man in charge of the team? Will he still be there at the end of the season? There's a lot of optimism over our new man Phil Parkinson, and he seems the opposite of Peter Taylor in many ways... which is fine by us if it gets results. We're all behind him at the moment, and hopefully he'll be given time to settle in. We begin with some tough away games, so we'll have to be strong at home to get off to a good start. Unless he 'does a Jan Molby', he's sure to be given at least a year in the job, especially after the effort and money it took to persuade Colchester to let him go.

Is the club being run well? Couldn't be happier.

Which team do you most want to beat and why?

Leeds, because it was so enjoyable beating them last year!

Who do you think's going up?

Automatic:

West Brom and Birmingham

Play Offs:

Norwich
