A Chance To Discuss Matters Coventry City

Last updated : 09 May 2015 By Covsupport News Service

Today at Fargo Village in Gosford Street, Coventry, there will be a chance for Coventry City supporters to talk matters Sky Blues.

In the Main Market Hall from 1pm to 2.30pm, Dr David Webber will be giving a talk entitled "Politics And Power In The People's Game".

The blurb for the event is as follows:

"In his research, David Webber explores the ‘great transformation’ of English football. Developing the ideas of the economic sociologist Karl Polanyi and his book of the same name, David analyses the commercialisation of the modern game, and the effects that this has had upon different sets of supporters. An academic here in the Politics and International Studies department, a lifelong fan of Liverpool, and a member of the Liverpool supporters union, Spirit of Shankly, David aims to show in scholarly terms, how the English game might be culturally and socially reclaimed from the financial interests that now dominate it.

Given the situation that Coventry City now finds itself, his work should be of interest to fans of the Sky Blues, and David is very interested in the ideas and concerns of those who form the backbone and identity of the club. With this in mind we have invited some fans and stakeholders along to join in a discussion about Coventry City Football Club and the politics surrounding recent events and issues."

The event is free
