A Brilliant Performance - Hopkins

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins has described Saturday’s 3-1 win over Alvechurch as a “brilliant performance”.

“Saturday was a brilliant performance by the team to take us nine unbeaten in the league,” Hopkins told the Sphinx website.

”Considering the injuries and suspensions we have and which all teams do at this time of the year with festive schedule, we have done very well.

”There was a few changes to the team but it didn't effect us at all.

”Alvechurch took the lead through a very soft goal, it was a 25 yarder that Carl O’Neill normally would throw his hat on to stop. However, thirty minutes prior to kick off, Carlo had a muscle in his back go in to a spasm and it was still loosening up five minutes into the game.

“We then stepped up and it took us 15 to get back into the game. At 1-1 in the first half, our keeper didn't touch the ball for fifteen minutes and we dominated them.

”Second half we came out and carried on where we left off with Man Of The Match Rickie Cutting getting his second, and Aden Moore getting a third to see out the game.

“We had a good crowd again and I know the lads are getting the taste for the crowds with the cheers and the atmosphere helps spur them on as a 12th man. We would like to thank the fans that are coming and encourage more people who want to see good football in Coventry.

“We go away to Highgate United - the league leaders on Thursday night and then go away to third place Quorn on Saturday before the third game in six days, when we are at home to fourth placed Boldmere St Michaels on Monday night. It is a tough period ahead of us and one which definitely map out where we go for the rest of the season.”
