6-1 And You're Still Singing

"Look at those Coventry fans, they are happy after a 6-1 defeat", was one of the many comments from Arsenal fans trying to make their way to the tube stations on Wednesday night after Coventry City's cup exit.

Big cup nights for Coventry City are now sadly something of a rarity and the chance to visit probably the finest new football stadium in this country in the last ten years and see players from one of the top sides in England and possibly Europe, playing against our team, was something that just under eight thousand of us did not pass upon.

Matches like this are a perk for all the years of misery and now a slide into League One, a division in which we are still to win a game, so nights like Wednesday night are to be enjoyed.

The amount of City supporters that we took to the game was excellent and totally made stupid the alleged comments made by one 'City Supporters Rep' who felt that anyone who does not have a season ticket is not a true fan. Every person in the away section at Arsenal backed the team to the hilt, easily outsinging and out-bantering the home fans who outnumbered us at least six to one.

Most of us who travelled down to The Emirates Stadium, which does need to look at how quickly it can get supporters into the ground, by train, tube, car or coach, had already written off any hope of a victory especially with Arsenal fielding a number of internationals and for us, the most important thing was getting a goal, giving a good account of ourselves and enjoying the occasion.

When Callum Ball finished off a cracking Carl Baker cross, sparking scenes of pure euphoria in the away section of the Clock End, that was completed the list of boxes that needed to be ticked.

So yes, you Arsenal fans, we were by and large happy, with plenty to sing about. We'd given you a game, scored a goal, enjoyed your great stadium and had a good day.
