City have 41 points from 36 points, the same points as Middlesbrough who drew 0-0 at Portsmouth. City dropped down a place thanks to Derby beat Swansea City 2-1 at home.
With bottom side Preston not playing, second from bottom Sheffield United lost 3-0 at Watford and had Henderson and Williamson sent off with Michael Doyle booked.
Scunthorpe who are third bottom also lost going down to a 3-0 home defeat to Leicester City and Crystal Palace stay fourth bottom despite losing 2-1 at QPR.
Fifth placed Leeds drew 0-0 with Ipswich whilst Burnley whom City travel to on Sunday were beaten 3-0 at home by Millwall.
In League Two, Jermaine Grandison was sent off in a 5-0 defeat for Shrewsbury Town at Torquay United.
Elsewhere sixth placed Nottingham Forest drew 0-0 with Doncaster Rovers.
