SOUTHEND UNITED V COVENTRY CITY
FRIDAY OCTOBER 13TH AT 7.45PM
AT ROOTS HALL,VICTORIA AVENUE,SOUTHEND ON SEA,ESSEX,SS2 6NQ

WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1906, Southend United were a more ambitious club than Southend Athletic who were the leading club in the town at the turn of the century and immediately moved into the Second Division of the Southern League.

Although never actually making it into the top flight of English football,Southend have won promotion twice in the last two seasons under current boss Steve Tilson. Their promotion from League 2 in 2004/05 was via the play-offs but they romped League One last season and set a new club record with eight successive league wins. Their best run in the FA Cup was four appearances in the Fifth Round.. They have never been past the Third Round Of the League Cup but were LDV Vans Trophy runners up in 2004/05.

Their nickname is The Shrimpers and have played home matches at Roots Hall since 1955. Southend have submitted plans for a new 22,000 capacity stadium with a 114 bedroom hotel on the site of their current training ground.

HOW TO GET THERE

By Car
From M25 take Junction 29 and follow the A127 to Southend. Continue towards the town centre, through the lights near to the Bell Pub. At the next roundabout turn right (3rd turning), continuing on the A127. The ground is on the right just past the next traffic lights.

There are roadworks on the M1 and M25 so allow extra time for your journey.

By Train
The closest station to the ground is Prittlewell, about a five minute walk away. It is served by trains from London Liverpool Street. As you exit the station turn right, you will then come to a crossroads with traffic lights. On your right is the 'Fish House', fish and chip shop. Pass this and turn right. Walk about 100 yards and the ground is tucked away on your left.

There are plenty of trains from London Liverpool Street station. They run every eleven minutes or so and the the journey takes 55 minutes. There are trains back to London at 22.08 and 22.38 after the game.

If you happen to end up at Southend Central station (served by trains from London Fenchurch Street), you're about a 25 minute walk from the ground. The main bus station is close to Southend Central, and therefore it may be an idea to get a bus up to the ground, rather than walking.

CCFC Coach: Adult £22; Senior Citizen/Junior £19; Adult season ticket holder £17; Concession season ticket holder/JSB £11; Disabled £14. Coaches will depart the Ricoh Arena at 2pm.
