Sky Blues On The Road - Sheffield United

Last updated : 26 August 2005 By Covsupport

City’s fifth away game of August sees the Sky Blue Army set off to high flyers Sheffield United.

Boosted by two 3-0 victories in a week, Micky Adams returns to his home town and the team he supports needing his Sky Blue side to keep the run going.

Having made six changes for the League Cup tie at Rushden, Adams is likely to bring back Stephen Bywater in goal, Robert Page against one of his former clubs and Richard Duffy in defence with Dele Adebola back in the attack.

Also available will be Stephen Hughes who has served a two game suspension. The feeling amongst City supporters is that after two good performances, Hughes should not walk back into the team but the choice of whether the skipper and stand by keeper supersedes Wilo Flood, Claus Jorgensen or Isaac Osbourne will be made by Adams and his back room staff of Alan Cork and Adrian Heath who have both worn the red and white stripes of Sheffield United shortly before kick off.

James Scowcroft who pulled a hamstring before the cup tie on Wednesday is doubtful and may be replaced by Andy Morrell.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock who is alleged to have been interviewed for the job at Coventry City prior to Micky Adams appointment is able to field a strong side with bookies mate Keith Gillespie likely to play alongside new signings Paul Ifill and Neil Shipperly.

Mr C. Webster from Tyne & Wear has been appointed as the referee for the game on a ground which once staged test match cricket.

Things are close on the form guide with the sides having met on 42 previous occasions and City having won 14 of the encounters with 15 draws and 13 wins for the Blades. Last season’s game saw a 1-1 draw. The best performance was a Boxing Day Classic with goals from Stewart Robson,Sean Flynn and Peter Billing seeing a 3-0 Sly Bues victory.

It will be pay on the gate for City supporters in the Upper tier of the Gordon Lamb Stand with adults having to pay an pricey £23. The tickets for the game which had allegedly gone missing in the move, have now resurfaced and are available if you want to pick one up before you travel.
