Sky Blues On The Road - Rushden & Diamonds

Last updated : 24 August 2005 By Covsupport

It’s League Cup action this time as Coventry City back down the A14 to play Rushden & Diamonds in a League Cup 1st Round tie.

Having played Rushden who are run by their Supporters Trust in a not very friendly last month, Micky Adams will know all about the Northamptonshire based side and their “kick you off the park” tactics.

City are without the suspended Stephen Hughes and could be minus Richard Duffy who described his chances of playing in this game as “hopeful” Gary McSheffrey who was taken off during the win over Queens Park Rangers may also sit this one out in readiness for the more important league games against Sheffield United and Southampton.

Stern John is available and could well replace McSheffrey.

Unfortunately for the City supporters, there will be no chance to boo Drew Broughton whose preventable collision with Clayton Ince, left the City keeper in hospital, nursing bruised ribs and fluid on the lungs. The former Nuneaton Borough player is reported being at least a week away from action.

Diamonds boss Barry Hunter will be without Graham Allen who has an Achilles injury but will have Dave Savage back in contention.

The last three meetings between the two clubs had seen a friendly win a piece by both 2-1 and an 8-0 win in the League Cup for City at Highfield Road in which Gary McSheffrey scored a hat-trick.

Kick off at Nene Park is at 7.45pm and it is pay on the gate for City supporters with admission to the Airwair Stand costing £8 for adults, £6 concessions and £3 for U16's, according to the club’s website.
