Coventry Music Museum's Second Birthday With Paul King

Last updated : 02 November 2015 By CMM

Coventry's own community Music Museum is two years old in November, despite sometimes not being automatically mentioned, when the talk turns to local museums and attractions. It still heads the number one spot on Things to Do In Coventry, on Trip Advisor and has done so for twenty months. Attracting over 8000 visitors from 46 countries (50 if you include the UK). Indeed, as I write the museum has had 298 reviews, 2 average, 13 very good and 282 excellent, that has to mean something, in this city?

The 2nd Birthday weekend, and is on Saturday at Knights at The 2-Tone Village, and we welcome the legendary Paul King! This is an amazing coup for the CMM, and so fitting for the 2nd Birthday. Pete Chambers will be asking the questions in this very special Heritage Lottery Sounding Off at 12.00pm on Sat 14th November, with a meet and greet later. This event is already selling out, wristbands are essential for this, and are obtainable only at the museum at the 2-Tone Village Ball Hill (CV2 4ED).

Paul was the enigmatic front man for the 80's band King, who hit the chart with their power pop songs like "Love & Pride and "Alone Without  You" He left King and recorded a solo album, eventually becoming a presenter or VJ on MTV and VH1. Since then he has been out of the limelight and has been in demand as a top music TV producer. So this visit has caused quite a stir, with people cancelling their holiday plans to attend, and even attracting visitors from Italy. With many of the original fans, getting together to come up to Coventry to see Paul once again, and the current King exhibition "For Love & Pride", there is even some Birthday cake on offer.

The very next day (Sunday 15th) at the 2-Tone Village. Knights venue, is hosting reggae legend Susan Cadogan, singing live with the AC 30's as support and her backing band.

Director Curator of the Museum Pete Chambers said, "The last two years have been a wonderful journey for us, its a joy to think that someone will get up in the morning, and decide to come and visit us. We all work for free, and its the people's kindness that makes it all worth it. I'm personally living the dream, the new extension is working perfectly, and the feedback in out guestbook and on Trip Advisor is more than we could ever hope for,  pretty much 100% positive. getting Paul for our Birthday celebrations is the icing on the birthday cake. I just want to thank everyone who has helped, especially our volunteers and patrons and all the great musicians that rocked Coventry & Warwickshire and beyond".

The CMMuseum on Ball Hill, is open Thurs to Sun 10-4, £3.00 adults & £1.00 for children.
