Warwickshire Cricket League Round Up

Kings Heath have emerged this season as the team to beat in the WCL premier Division and now stand 40points clear after another win this week at highway CC. Only Jamie Marsh with 31-offfered any resistance as the home side were bowled out for 138 (Monk 5 for 24) before the Shephards, Gavin and Stuart with 55 and 46 not out made easy work of an 8 wicket victory. The results elsewhere also went their way with Handsworth rained off. Bablake OB won to go second at Four Oaks Saints taking only 7.2 overs to make the 77 required for a victory as Saints crashed to 76 all out.

In the 3rd XI premier division Water Orton now lead the way, their 24 point win over Small Heath being especially significant as the chasing Old Eds, Attock and Walsall WMF all did not play. this was the tightest of affairs with Small Heath making a gritty 119 for 9. It went down to the last wicket with Water Orton squeezing home . On that 1 wicket Water Orton went top Small Heath 5th, if the wicket had fallen Small Heath would have been top , how significant will that be on September the first ? All through the 3rd XI and Single Team league again this week there were a large number of cancellations due to weather as a frustrating season in this respect for us all continues .

Division 1 is starting to follow the same pattern as the premier division with Rugby way out ahead. Visiting Warwick who themselves were mid table at the start of play came up against a bowling attack which was on fire. Led by Monsell 4 for 36, Warwick managed only 48. Needless to say another 20 points and an 8 wicket win followed. Marston Green had to sit it out in the rain at Bronze the side remaining 3 points apart in 3rd and 5th, and although Pak Shaheen had the better of their match against Barby, Barby did deny them the win hanging on at 104 for 8 chasing a 133 all out first innings total.

Division 5 is now the closest of all division, 2 points separate the top 3 with Wythall and Nuneaton 4th and 5th and still within 11 points. In the match of the day here Walmley 3rd came unstuck at Nuneaton by 8 runs, Nuneaton 168 for 8, Walmley 160 all out with Walmley Batsman Hendry scoring 101 of those 160. The 5 points was not enough to keep them top as the division tightened up, with Bulkington 20 point winners against Leamington Khalsa, Noon 6-39 Johal 4-24 sharing the 10 wickets, in a 10 wicket victory, joining Walmley on 74 points. Ward End Unity then crept above both of them, despite not managing to convert their advantage against Wythall into a win. Wythall 128 for 8 hung on for the draw after Ward End made 176 all out . Ward End Unity 76 points.
