Warwickshire Cricket League Round Up

After 4 weeks the WCL premier division shows 6 clubs covered by 18 points has no one has made a decisive move so far. Kings Heath this week 239 for 6, Pemberton 109 had Solihull Blossomfield in all sorts of trouble but despite restricting them to 97 only got 6 of the required 10 wickets for victory and 18 points rather than 24.

The fixtures threw up a clash at Sutton Coldfield of the 2 relegated BDPCL teams with Handsworth hosting Sutton Coldfield. In a late starting match 44 overs a side Sutton Coldfield struggled to 146 for 6 off their allotted overs, Handsworth in reply had Coldy Dawkins on form with 65 as they cantered to a 7 wicket victory with 10 overs to spare.

This denied Sutton Coldfield their chance at top spot and saw Handsworth leap frog several sides to go second, Bedworth, Highway and Nuneaton have also made solid starts, all winning on the day.

Bedworth with an impressive 7 wicket victory at Bablake. Scott Fiswell started the rot with 2 of the first 3 but the bowling star for Bedworth was Nigel Canwell 6 for 21 as he took out the middle and lower order. Bablake could not find a similar bowling star and after losing Lewis Peakcok early for 2 Thomas Dangarembiz (20) and Scott Friswell (39) saw the visitors to the edge of victory, before Ryan Parnell finished things off with a swift 19 not out.

Division 1 firsts sees Rugby CC with several new acquisitions over the winter riding high 3 wins in the 3 games they have played (the other rained off). his week at Atherstone they defended 113 for 9 in 50 overs on a track which proved difficult to score on. Matt Ewer and N McGrath shares 9 of the tem wickets with 5 for 28 and 4 for 10 respectively.

Division 2 saw 3 of the match fall to the overnight rain and table topping Castle Bromwich suffered their first loss at Knowle Village. This week an attack which had previously defended 2 low scores game up just short as Flynn with 38 not out guided Knowle Village to a 3 wicket victory. Hampton second and Lyndworth 3rd did not play and so did not close the ground but at least Castle Bromwich stayed close to the chasing pack..... the last 100% WCL record has now fallen.
