Warwickshire Cricket League Results

Last updated : 12 September 2011 By Graham Seal

Last but one Saturday in the WCL and Streetly can celebrate tonight becoming Champions of the WCL albeit a bit of a damp squib as their match this afternoon fell foul to rain before 25 overs had been complete in the second innings. Streetly 60 for 2 at the time with 8 points taking them to 357 for the season, still having to wait for other results.

At Olton and West Warwick, Highway the visitors, and an incredible match with a tense finish. Highway 306 for 9 before tea, D. Thornton 69, Sandhu 54 looked as though they might have it but as events played out it went down to the final wicket partnership for Olton with scores level, Olton all out 306 and a tie. 6 Points dropped for Olton is significant as 24 points would have kept the title race open albeit mathematically.

Then as cruelly as rain has interfered at Streetly the rain fell in Coventry. Nuneaton a creditable score of 263 for 9 in 50 overs, had David Blowers and Captain Russell Rice with an early partnership (50s a piece) before Christopher Knight at 6 held the tail together with a fine 60. Swafiled and Sanders taking 4 wickets each for the visitors. Bablake's reply was well underway and after the early loss
of Joshua De Sousa Tony Bristow 91 and Luke De Souza 38 shared what looked like a decisive partnership. Jason Pyott joined De Sousa when Bristow finally fell LBW to James Taplin and at 182 for 2 in 36.1 overs, they were looking a good bet for the win. Cue rain and Nuneaton took the winning draw on run rate leaving Bablake 11 points with 321. Congratulations to Streetly CC WCL Champions

Division 1 first XI will go down to the final week. Four Oaks Saints blew
away Stockton whose season seems to be coming apart a little with the club falling out of contention for the prizes. Hamza Nadeem 8 for 37 the
destroyer as saints 276 for 9 (Tom Wright our junior rep side captain 120) and Stockton 77 all out. Southam went to Offchurch and with the home side 162 all out made the runs for the loss of 4. The top two play Warwick and Old Eds next week, two clubs having good seasons themselves so even with a 16 point advantage Saint still need to win the division.

Congratulations to Marston Green, their winners this week at Lyndworth .Despite Lyndworth making a round 200 they were never in the match and Knott 110 not out and Tahir 54 steered Martson Green to their 13th and lucky for some victory. Rugby visited Aston Unity and rain helpd Aston Unity climb out of the bottom 2 when they were 156 for 5 chasing 197 to win. The rain robbing all of a good finish here.
