Warwickshire County Cricket Club were beaten at Nottinghamshire tonight in a rain affected Pro40 game.

Play was delayed by rain at Trent Bridge until 6pm and the game was reduced to 29 overs per side.

Nottinghamshire won the toss and put Pro40 table leaders Warwickshire who were without Neil Carter who had a torn thigh muscle into bat with Darren Maddy and Varum Chopra opening the batting.

However, as 6pm arrived, so did the rain and the covers were back on. Play did get underway with a sixteen over game.

Darren Maddy made ten and Keith Barker added two runs to the score before he was caught by Hussey. Warwicks were 22-2 after six overs and in the next over Chopra went for eight, skying another catch to Hussey.

In the tenth over and Warwickshire struggling for runs, Jim Troughton gave Mullaney a comfortable catch and with the Warwicks total on 40, Woakes gave Hussey his third catch and the fifth wicket.

The fifty came up after eleven overs and three balls but Ryan Sidebottom bowled Rikki Clarke who hade made 20 from 21 balls, two overs later.

On 70-6 and with two overs to go, Warwicks took the power play but only seven runs came from the over and the final over produced four runs to see Warwicks end their innings on 81-6.

Chris Woakes was hit for four with the first ball of the Nottinghamshire innings but his third ball was straight down the middle and Alex Hales was bowled.

Notts were 20-1 after two overs and after five overs, they only needed 38 runs to win. The batting power play was taken in the sixth over but the first ball of the over saw Woakes knock the bails off and Ally Brown was out for 14.

Samit Patel was finally out when he was stumped by Tim Ambrose off the bowling of Imran Tahir for 25 from 17 balls.

Stephen Mullaney came with Notts now needing thirteen runs to win.

The rain was coming down but a four and a six from David Hussey (34 not out from 12 balls) made sure that Nottinghamshire won by seven wickets.
