Warwickshire Bears went down to a two run Pro 40 defeat at Hampshire Royals

At the Rose Bowl in Southampton, Warwickshire, the CB Pro40 Champions put Hampshire into bat.

The home side made made 76 before Jimmy Adams was bowled by Rikki Clarke and thirty four more runs were added by Myburgh who had made 64 before he was bowled by Darren Maddy.

Neil McKenzie was steady with the bat hitting one six and nine fours in an unbeaten innings of 87 but he lost partners Vince who was caught by Chopra off the bowling of Ant Botha and Irvine and Dawson (40) to Keith Barker as Hampshire closed on 275-5, after hitting 24 in the final over.

When Warwickshire batted, Will Porterfield again disappointed when he was first out after having scored only five and Barker went for single as Warwicks toiled at 22-2.

With Mohammad Yousuf making eleven, it was up to Jim Troughton and Varun Chopra to get the runs. Captain Troughton had made 25 before he was caught by Dominic Cork who then ran out Varun Chopra who had hit 54 from 65 balls.

The run rate was creeping up to over ten an over as Darren Maddy and Rikki Clarke found themselves pegged back.

Clarke hit two sixes before Darren Maddy was guilty of a daft run out and out for 49 with the score on 198.

When Rikki Clarke, who had made 59 after being dropped, was stumped by Bates with the score on 214-7, Warwickshire needed 61 runs from 35 deliveries.

Ant Botha was caught on the boundary by Dawson after making seven. Chris Woakes took the mantle to get Warwicks to needng 21 from the final two overs.

Simon Jones bowled Richard Johnson for 12 from ten balls leaving fifteen required from the final over.

The scorers might have disagreed over the score and a decision had to be made that Warwicks required thirteen from five balls.

A six and a four were needed off the final two balls. Dominic Cork was smacked by Chris Woakes for six in the first but a dot ball gave Hampshire a two run victory.

Warwickshire now travel to Durham for a County Championship game starting on Tuesday. You can hear ball by ball commentary by clicking on the BBC Coventry & Warwickhire website.
