Warwickshire County Cricket Club had to toil away in the field on the opening day of their County Championship game against Somerset at Taunton.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bat. It proved to be a good decision as Marcus Trescothwick and Nick Compton put on 103 for the first wicket with both players completing fifty runs before Jeetan Patal had Trescothwick trapped lbw.

Six runs later, Compton was out for 52 after falling lbw to Rikki Clarke and with the score on 118, Javid caught James Hildreth off the bowling of Chris Woakes.

With Alviro Petersen now hitting runs, Somerset had Chris Kieswetter caught by Clarke for a duck to give Chris Wright a wicket.

Jos Buttler started to find runs with the bat on his way to an unbeaten ninety and along with Petersen, they put on 193 runs before Wright got his second wicket and Clarke his second catch as Petersen went for 136.

Peter Trego could only add three runs before he was caught behind by Tim Ambrose before Somerset ended the day on 358-6.
