Warwickshire County Cricket Club toiled against Yorkshire on the opening day of their County Championship match at Headingly.

Yorkshire won the toss against a Warwicks team which manager Ashley Giles has admitted needs "cash to be splashed" and had dangerman Jack Ruddolph out for a duck, caught by Rikki Clarke off the bowling of Neil Carter.

His fellow opening batsman Adam Lyth and Anthony McGrath (57) put on 148 for the second wicket.

With the Yorkshire score on 156, Lyth, who had become the first player this season to pass the 1000 run mark, was out for 82 when he became Carter's third victim.

Gerard Brophy and Jon Bairstow (44) put on one hundred for the fourth wicket.

At the close, Brophy was 92 not out and Yorkshire on 325-4
