Warwicks Relegate Derbyshire

Warwickshire County Cricket Club relegated Derbyshire after thrashing them by an innings and 168 runs on the third day of their County Championship game at Derby.

The home side resumed their first innings on 44-5 and after Keith Barker trapped Shiv Chanderpaul for 52, the tail enders were mopped up with Barker claiming his fifth wicket when he had Wainwright caught behind by Poynter.

With Tony Palladino retiring hurt, Warwicks needed to get only two more wickets. Tom Poynton was the first to go, caught by Poynter to give Boyd Rankin a wicket. and when Tim Gronevald was caught by Poynter for Maurice Chambers third wicket, Derbyshire were all out for 103.

Warwicks enforced the follow on. Seventeen runs were on the board when Chambers had Slater, who had made twelve runs caught by Clarke and five runs later, Chris Woakes had Madsen caught after making a single by Laurie Evans.

Shiv Chanderpaul offered no resistance, falling to Barker who had him caught behind by Poynter for six and this was followed by Borrington going in the next over to give Chris Woakes a second wicket before a third came when Johnson was caught by Patal.

Derbyshire were in big trouble on 38-5 and although Tom Poynton tried a rescue act with a knock of 41, Rankin had Hughes out for two and Wainright for eight.

When Jeetan Patal bowled Poynton, Derbyshire's hopes faded and with the score on 120, Patal bowled Gronevald and Derbyshire were relegated to Division Two, leaving Warwickshire to celebrate an end to their County Championship campaign with an innings and 168 run victory.
