Warwickshire bowled Surrey out for 223 on the opening day of their County Championship game at The Oval.

Surrey put on 41 for the first wicket which came when Keith Barker had Roy trapped lbw after making 21.

Zander De Bruyn added sixteen before being caught by Chris Wright and when Steve Davies, who had made 34 was run out by Tim Ambrose, Surrey were 84-3.

Jacques Rudolph and Rory Hamilton-Brown put on fifty for the fourth wicket but that partnership was ended when Tim Ambrose took the catch off the bowling of Chris Wright and Jim Troughton ran out Hamilton Brown who had made 34.

Chris Woakes took the wickets of Jordan and Batty before Tom Maynard and Jon Lewis offered a brief spell of resistance with a stand of 39.

Barker broke up that stand having Maynard who top scored with 39 caught behind by Ambrose who also caught Lewis to become a second wicket for Chris Wright.

With the score on 223, the same Ambrose/Wright partnership worked again to remove Jade Dernbach and see Surrey all out in 60.1 overs.

When Warwicks batted, they lost Ian Westwood for five but Varun Chopra (59 not out) and Will Porterfield (32 not out) steered Warwicks through to a stumps total of 106-1.
